The Competition

Although you may not enjoy thinking about the competition surrounding you, if you ignore it and go ahead with your business without taking it into consideration, you might have some problems.

Since it is now relatively easy to start a business (although it is much harder to make a success of one), there is always going to be competition. Ignoring it or thinking that it can’t affect you is a big mistake and one that a sensible business owner would never make. It will be impossible to stand out from the crowd if you don’t know who or what the crowd is and what they are doing.

It is vital, therefore, to research the competition even if it is uncomfortable to do so. Find out how they are marketing and what is working for them, and what isn’t. Find out who is buying from them. Work out what makes you different – it is this that you need to use in your marketing and branding, and share on social media. Once you have this information and are sure you can use it to your advantage, you will be ready to start your business.
